A multi-sensory therapy room is a place where children with special needs can explore and develop their senses and skills. It has been proven that the multi-sensory therapy room provides therapy which benefits children in a myriad of ways – the children feel more relaxed, focused and stimulated in a highly conducive environment that increases their attention span, tolerance and cognitive development. The children also demonstrate an improvement in behavior and an increase in participation and eye contact whilst experiencing increased visual and touch processing.
Experts and professionals believe that the multi-sensory therapy room is proficient in delivering stimuli to the children’s various senses through light, color and sound in a soothing and stimulating environment that does not rely on verbal communication to benefit the children with development disabilities. These specialists have also concluded that there is a need for more multi-sensory therapy rooms throughout Malaysia.
Recognizing this urgency, Open Minds has pledged to contribute a total of RM1 million to build multi-sensory therapy rooms at community rehabilitation centre’s (Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti, PDK) across the country. Available in each state in Malaysia, Open Minds hopes that the multi-sensory therapy room contribution will help improve the lives of special children in both urban and rural areas. |
